New year's resolutions are usually done at the end of the year. We attribute a tremendous amount of importance to this ritual. While it is encouraging to set yourself up for success, what happens when those resolutions aren't holding up towards the end of the year? Adopting this frame of mind in every-day-life makes a world of a difference. The winter woes are very real and here to stay. There is a solution to all of this- I promise! Ask yourself, What if we kept the same enthusiasm through out the whole year?
The road to success isn't a linear path rather anomalous. What people don't tell you is that once you're close to your goals and dreams, you may revert back to fear, worry and anxiety. Mid way through the path you're confident because you've worked hard and yielded results so you know the reward is near, but as you appraoch the finish line you question if you're still in the run, am I still strong enough to make it? This is very common for trained runners preping for a marathon, What is known as the "eleventh mile". Half way through the finish line, runners often say is mental work from that point. No matter the countless hours dedicated to training, reading "self help" books, watching hours of sound baths- your mental capacity to endure is the most significant.
Jim Kwick, a well known "Self help" Guru, talks about Automatic Negative Thoughts- ANTS. In his book " Limitless" He states how comman it is for these thoughts to be part of your day-to-day life. Not all negative thinking is bad. However figuring out a way to draw the line at destructive self talk and motivational tough self love is more palpable. The "inner critic" as Kwick refers to is an evolutionary trait that distinguishes/analyzses real life problems. This becomes a problem when it gets in the way of your every day decisicion making. More often than not, were the cuplrit standing in our way!
To think bigger than yourself is to shift your perspective. Going outside to see the ocean waves, the giant montouains, a sky line city view. All of those are larger than life in the literal sense but help us to see an immediate result. When you seem smaller- your problems shrink too. Studies say when you feel anxious to name 5 things you see. This is commanly refered to as a grounding technique. It is meant to immediately alleviaqte the feelings of anxiety, worry, fear and bring you back to the present moment. Knowing this, applying the same method only on a larger scale helps to shift the perspective. This isnt to minimize the issue rather to experience a new perspective.
All of these realities are maluable as I ve stated before. We can manipulate this life into our liking. Prepping yourself for the inevitable will only ensure the right mindset to carry out your dreams. Create a routine on checking in on yourself. If you ask yourself, " am i living up to the resolutions i set up for myself?" and the answer is yes, then pat yourself on the back. However, if the answer is, no, then follow the necessary steps to get you to where you need to be. Be serious with yourself and life to create dreams and turn them into reality.
